STI GP6 Features

Front and Rear Cocking Serrations

The front and rear cocking serrations on the STI GP6 are designed to make slide manipulation a breeze, whether you’re cocking the pistol or clearing a jam. They’re a nice touch for shooters who value quick, reliable handling. However, not everyone is sold on them—some users feel the serrations could be a bit more aggressive, as they might not offer the same solid grip as other models, especially if your hands are sweaty or gloved. Still, they get the job done!

Ambidextrous Controls

The STI GP6’s ambidextrous controls are a win for both lefties and righties, offering thumb safeties, slide release, and a magazine release that works seamlessly no matter your dominant hand. It’s a thoughtful feature for versatility and comfort. However, the thumb safety levers can feel a bit narrow for some users, which might make quick disengagement a little tricky in high-pressure moments. While it’s a great addition overall, the design might not feel perfect for everyone.

Textured Side Panels

The STI GP6’s textured side panels aim to give you better control during firing, adding a touch of confidence to your grip. They’re designed to help you maintain stability, especially during rapid shots. However, some users might find the texture a bit too mild, which could result in a slightly slippery grip under heavy recoil or sweaty conditions. While they do offer some level of control, those who prefer a more aggressive texture might feel they fall a little short.

Interchangeable Backstraps

The STI GP6 offers a customizable grip with interchangeable backstraps, allowing users to find a size that best suits their hand and improves overall ergonomics. It’s a thoughtful feature for tailoring the pistol to your comfort and shooting style. However, not all backstraps fit perfectly, and some users report slight movement or a less secure feel. Additionally, the process of swapping backstraps can be a bit tricky for beginners, and the limited size options might not cater to everyone’s hand size.

Final Thoughts

The STI GP6 is a solid choice for shooters looking for a unique and versatile pistol with a European design and innovative features. We are impressed by its unique rotary barrel system and ambidextrous controls. It feels great in hand, and the performance is reliable enough to make it a solid contender for everyday use or range days.

That said, it’s not perfect. The grip texture could use a bit more bite, and the backstrap adjustments aren’t exactly user-friendly. But honestly, if you’re looking for something different with plenty of personality and solid functionality, the GP6 is definitely worth a closer look.

  1. I have a gp6. It is my favorite gun for combat. I also purchased 3 20 round mags. Best stock trigger I have ever seen fits my hand best. It is actually a grand power k100. Unfortunately I bought it when STI imported it and paid an extra $200 just to have the STI logo on the slide. Century Arms now imports it. It can be had for $429 shipped, and the new frame has a better slide lock then the old trigger guard lock.
